Here is some not very good news for lovers of Apple iPhones! Now, users will have to pay more to buy their favourite iPhones. Apple smartphones have become expensive after the government's hike of 5 percent in import taxes via customs duty from 10 percent to 15 percent last week. Apple became the first manufacturer to raise prices across iPhone models, except iPhone SE that the company assembles in the country. Apple is currently assembling iPhone SE model at its Bengaluru facility with Wistron Corporation, its Taiwanese manufacturing partner. "As expected, Apple has increased the iPhone prices. The interesting thing now is to see how the Indian Apple community reacts to this," said Tarun Pathak, associate director, mobile devices and ecosystems, Counterpoint Research. Domestic and some China-based manufacturers will not be affected as much as most of them are assembling a lot in the country and just need to rev up their assembly lines, Pathak added. The government had announced the hike in taxes on Friday for smartphones which are imported from abroad with the aim of boosting sales of smartphones manufactured under the Make in India initiative.
With effect from today, the iPhone X will now retail at a new price of Rs 92,430 for the 64GB variant and Rs 1,05,720 for the 256GB variant. Apple iPhone SE is the only one in the list which will not be bearing any price hike. Apple has now announced the new prices for iPhones in the country.
