Samsung chief, Koh Dong-jin confirmed the company is working towards a foldable smartphone.
As of now, what we know is that the display panel on the smartphone will have a gigantic 7.3 inch flexible OLED display which will be built by Samsung Display. The display can be opened like a book. The ET News report also stated that Samsung may even show the display of the smartphone at the CES 2018. The news report stated that Samsung will finish the development of the foldable displays by March 2018 and start manufacturing the panels in September. The report also stated that the company will have the screen. Samsung’s mobile chief Koh Dong-jin has said “it is difficult to talk about the date of the launch now. We want to unveil the products properly but now seems a bit early.” Koh also said that Samsung is working to overcome the usability issues holding the product back from commercialisation.
In the recent past, ZTE had released the ZTE Axon M. The smartphone came with a dual screen and came pretty close to the concept of a foldable screen. Launched in October last year, the smartphone featured two 5.2-inch screens that can be folded to the size of a traditional smartphone.
Earlier, multiple reports suggested that the smartphone will go by the name 'Galaxy X'. However, none of that has been confirmed by the company yet.
