In order to get an added edge in the mid-tier segment of smartphones arena, the South Korean tech giant Samsung unveiled two new smartphones in the Galaxy A series. On Tuesday, Samsung introduced the "Galaxy A8" (2018) and the "Galaxy A8+" (2018). The official announcement was made on the Samsung's official Twitter handle. The launch comes after multiple leaks were seen on the internet. The device will be available in early January next year. As for the pricing and availability, it is yet to be disclosed by the company until then all we can do is speculate about the pricing.
By looking at the specifications, the Samsung Galaxy A8 and Galaxy A8+ are likely to be mid-tier smartphones but with the specifications that Samsung has to offer, it sure looks like a winner. The much talked about "Samsung's 'Infinity Display' finally makes its way into the mid-range handset. The 'Infinity Display' with absolute minimal bezels were seen on the flagship phones of 2017, like Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 plus and the Galaxy Note 8. Also, this will the first line up of handsets by Samsung with a dual front camera.
Both the new phones on offer by Samsung are offering IP68 water and dust resistance. This means that the phones can withstand sweat, rain, sand and dust. In a first, the A series will support Samsung’s Gear VR. The phones will come four colour options - Black, Blue, Gold, and Orchid Grey.
As far as the spec-list is considered, both the phones offer some meaty options:
The front camera on both Galaxy A8 and Galaxy A8+ sport a Dual Camera lens - a 16MP paired with an 8MP. Although the rear camera is a 16MP lens with PDAF. Both the devices are powered by an Octa-Core (2.2GHz Dual + 1.6GHz Hexa). Both the phones are capable of Fast Charging via USB Type-C. Although, with Android Oreo out for a couple of months now it would have been nice to see the phones running on Android 8.0 but the phone comes with Andoird Nougat 7.1.1.
With Samsung's 'Infinity Display' on board, the fingerprint scanner moves to the back of the device, but Samsung has finally sought the location of the device with putting the scanner below the camera module and not next to it. The phones will also support for "Samsung Pay" -- a mobile payment and digital wallet service (with MST).
There are a few differences between the two phones is the screen size, battery and the storage options. The "Galaxy A8" will be available with 4GB RAM and 32GB or 64GB internal storage with a 3,000mAh battery. The "Galaxy A8+" will come with 4GB or 6GB RAM and 32GB or 64GB storage options with a 3,500mAh battery. The storage on the Samsung Galaxy A8(2018) and A8+(2018) can be expanded by microSD cards of up to 256GB. The Galaxy A8 (2018) will feature a 5.6-inch full-HD+ (2220x1080 pixels) Super AMOLED display with 18.5:9 aspect ratio, which means a taller display will be seen with thinner bezels. Meanwhile, the Galaxy A8+ (2018) will sport a 6-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display.
